Sparkill, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport men's soccer team got first half goals from, and sophomore Oscar Facey (Trangsund, Sweden) and senior Leandro Avila (Panama City, Panama City, Panama), and sophomore goalkeeper Carlos Tofern (Hamburg, Germany) made six saves to pick up his third clean sheet of 2019, as the Purple Knights opened this year's East Coast Conference schedule with a 2-0 shutout at St. Thomas Aquinas College on Saturday afternoon. UB is now an even 3-3-0 overall and 1-0-0 in the ECC, and STAC slips to 0-4-1 overall and 0-1-0 in conference play.
Facey scored the game-winning on Saturday at thr 17:37 mark when he knocked home a rebound, and Avila gave his team some insurance at the 34:29 with a goal off an assist from sophomore Jesse Clark (Stratford, Conn.).
Up net, the Bridgeport men's soccer team will look to run their winning streak to three when the Purple Knights host the University of the District of Columbia next Saturday for a Homecoming clash at 3:00 p.m.
