Rindge, N.H.-The University of Bridgeport men's soccer team battled back from a 2-0 deficit in their 2014 season opener at Franklin Pierce University on Sunday afternoon to tie the match up at 2-2, but FPU's John Lockhhead found the back of the net at the 72:07 mark of action to give the host Ravens (1-1-0) a 3-2 win over the visiting Purple Knights.
It was a touch start for Bridgeport, as Franklin Pierce's Dallas Donovan would score twice in the first 9:24 of play.
The Purple Knights would cut the Ravens' lead to 2-1 at the 17:49 mark when senior Christoffer Olesen (Kristiansand, Norway) scored the first goal of the 2014 UB season off a free kick.
Bridgeport would tie things at 2-2 when junior Daniel Augenstein (Sandnes, Norway) tailed off an assist from newcomer Luka Ivanovic (So., Belgrade, Serbia) at the 24:10 mark.
Unfortunately for UB fans, those would be the only two goals the team would score in its 2014 debut as the match remained 2-2 until Lockhhead scored the game-winning goal with 17:53 to play.
Franklin Pierce outshot the Purple Knights, 20-17, on the afternoon, and UB goalkeeper Agustin Prados (Sr., Madrid, Spain) made five saves on the day,
Up next for the UB men's soccer team is their 2014 home opener against the Bears of Bloomfield College on Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. in game two of this season's Bridgeport Men's Soccer Classic. LIU Post will face Merrimack at 4:00 p.m. that same day to open the tournament.
