Women’s Volleyball Advances To CACC Semifinal After Defeating Georgian Court
Bridgeport won their CACC Quarterfinal match against Georgian Court 3-1 at home on Tuesday night.
Bridgeport, Conn. – The University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team won their Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Quarterfinal match against the Georgian Court University Lions 3-1 Tuesday evening. The North Division number one seeded Purple Knights won sets one, two and four with scores of 25-23, 25-19 and 25-20 while the South Division number four seed Lions won set three 25-23. The win improves UB's overall season record to 24-7 and advances them to the CACC Semifinal in Lakewood, New Jersey. on Saturday, November 18th.
The Bridgeport offense overpowered the Lions at the net, attacking with a .257 hitting percentage, compared to Georgian Court's .181 hitting percentage.
Sophomore Lucia Tomiello (Caltrano, Italy) led the line for UB with 17 kills while racking up a .517 hitting percentage. The middle blocker added four digs, three assists and two assisted blocks.
Setter Jaden Drollinger (Queens Creek, Az.) continued her red-hot form as she dished out 52 assists along with 14 digs, three kills, two aces and two assisted blocks.
Paola Hernandez (Jr., Bayamon, P.R.) slotted into the libero role for the Purple Knights and led the team with 18 digs from the back line.
Grace Presswood (Fr., S. Dennis, Mass.) had another solid night on both sides of the ball, providing 16 digs with nine kills and two assists.
Two more front row attackers tallied 16 kills each with Hailey Jessen (Fr., Highlands Ranch, Colo.) adding two digs and a block while Datari Mathis (Grad., Wethersfield, Conn.) chipped in with an additional four digs, two aces and two blocks.
Up next, UB will take on Chestnut Hill College after the South Division two seed beat the North Division third seeded Dominican University Tuesday evening. The CACC Semifinal match will be hosted by Georgian Court University in Lakewood, N.J. with the match time set for 12:00 p.m.
