Track and Field Teams Compete at Jim Sheehan Invitational
Purple Knights' second meet of their outdoor campaign.
FITCHBURG, Mass. – Taking part in their second meet of the outdoor season, the University of Bridgeport's track and field squads competed at the Jim Sheehan Invitational in Fitchburg, Mass. on Saturday.
MEN'S RECAP
John Panzera put together a pair of PRs and a first-place finish to lead UB's efforts on a rainy Saturday. The sophomore won the 110-hurdles with a new personal-best time of 15.28 while also registering a new PR in the 400-meter with a mark of 52.89.
Panzera's time in the hurdles also secured a new school record.
Dante Lingley performed well for the Purple Knights as well with a new school record in the 100-meter (10.94). He finished second in the event while missing a PR by four-hundredths of a second.
Edoardo Vandelli and Damian Coles also enjoyed top-five finishes on Saturday. Vandelli came in third in the 1500-meter while Coles clocked in a fifth-place effort in the 800-meter (2:12.82).
WOMEN'S RECAP
Anna-Mae Nellis highlighted the women's side with a pair of PRs and school records. She started out by winning the javelin with a new personal-best mark of 37.66m.
Nellis followed that up with a PR and school record in the 100-hurdles. The graduate student sprinted to a time of 17.61 which was good for fifth place.
More top-10 marks on Saturday included Kara Sampath placing eighth in the 400-meter (1:09.35), Julia Fortune finishing sixth in the 1500-meter (5:34.72) and Abety Kivagheni taking 10th in the 100-meter (13.92).
The women also had a squad run in the 4x100 relay. Kivagheni, Sampath, Nellis and Faith Hershberger teamed up for a third-place time of 53.43.
UP NEXT
Panzera and Nellis will compete at the UMass Multi Meet on Wednesday while both teams will take part in the Wilton Wright Invitational at Southern Connecticut State next Saturday.
