Two Early Second Half Goals Propel UB Women's Soccer To A 3-2 Road Win Over Georgian Court
UB Now 8-0-2 In The CACC
Lakewood, N.J.-The University of Bridgeport women's soccer team got two early second half goals to snap a 1-1 tie and then held on for a 3-2 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference road win over the host Georgian Court University Lions in New Jersey on Saturday afternoon. With the victory, UB is now 9-3-3 overall and 8-0-2 in conference play, and the Purple Knights are unbeaten in their 11 matches with eight victories and three ties. GCU is now 3-6-6 overall and 2-4-3 in the CACC.
Georgian Court got on the scoreboard first on Saturday in the 22nd minute, but UB tied thing up late in the first half when junior Samantha St. Pierre (Granby, Conn.)scored her first of two goals on the day with under three minutes to play in the opening stanza.
The Bridgeport offense came out of halftime firing on all cylinders netting two goals early on in the second half, when junior Leigh-Ann Ramsay (Bronx, N.Y.) put home her seventh goal of 2022 off a feed from Angelina LoFranco (So., Greenacres, Fla.) just 3:32 into the final 45 minutes of action, and then St. Pierre scored what proved to the game-winner shortly there after from an assist by sophomore Kate Thill (Geotzingen, Luxemburg). Samantha now has five goals this season.
GCU would cut the UB lead to just one with a tally in the 74th minute, and had a chance to tie the match at 3-3 at the 78:55 mark, but UB sophomore goalkeeper Clara Karlsson (Örnsköldsvik, Sweden) stopped her third penalty kick of the year and the ensuing rebound to keep her team in front. Karlsson, who is now 9-0-3 on the season, made five saves on the day for the winners.
UB outshot GCU, 22-13, in the match.
Up next, the Purple Knights return home to face Felician University on Tuesday afternoon at 3:00 p.m., as part of a doubleheader day with the men's team.
