Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's soccer team rallied for two second half goals to post a 2-1 home Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference home win over the visiting Wilmington (Del.) University Wildcats on Saturday afternoon. The victory keeps the Purple Knights unbeaten in their last nine matches (six wins and three ties) and ups the team's overall record to 7-3-3 and its conference record to an unbeaten 6-0-2. Wilmington is now 2-7-4 overall and 1-4-3 in the CACC.
Trailing 1-0 heading into the second half, the Purple Knights tied the game in the 56th minute, when junior Leigh-Ann Ramsay (Bronx, N.Y.) headed home her sixth goal of the year off a free kick from classmate Vivien Ruettgers (Munich, Germany).
A Ruettgers' free kick would again figure in the scoring of the game-winning goal, when sophomore Kate Thill (Goetzingen, Luxembourg) put home her team-high tenth goal of 2022 when she tapped home a rebound from Vivien's blast in the 73rd minute.
UB dominated the match on offense, as the Purple Knights outshot the Wildcats, 18-4, on the day, and finished with a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Bridgeport goalkeeper Clara Karlsson (So., Örnsköldsvik, Sweden) made two stops on the day to remain unbeaten so far this season with a 7-0-3 record.
Up next, the UB women's soccer team will travel up Route 8 to Waterbury, Conn. and face the Post University Eagles on Tuesday afternoon. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m.
