Pueblo, Colo.-The University of Bridgeport women's soccer team went into the locker room at halftime with a 1-0 lead over the host CSU-Pueblo Thunderwolves on Friday night, but after a lengthy stoppage due to lightening that delayed the start of the second half, the hosts came back to score twice in the final 45 minutes to defeat the Purple Knights, 2-1. Both UB and CSU-Pueblo are now an identical 1-2-0 on the young 2022 campaign.
Bridgeport got off to a fast start in the Rocky Mountains grabbing a 1-0 advantage just 8:46 into play, when sophomore Angelina LoFranco (Greenacres, Fla.) converted a penalty kick.
In the second half, the Thunderwolves would tie the match at 1-1 with a tally in the 67th minute, and what proved to be the game-winner score came in the 80th minute.
The Purple Knights would have a chance to tie the contest up with 8:16 remaining in the second half, but unfortunately for Purple Knights' fans, LoFranco could not convert her second spot kick of the evening. Angelina led Bridgeport with four shots in the match.
On the night, UB posted a 12-7 advantage in shots, and the host team finished with a 5-1 edge in corner kicks.
UB senior goalkeeper Helena Dahlstrom (Stockholm, Sweden) made three saves in the Purple Knights' net, and Nicole Genis had seven saves for the winners.
Up next, the UB women's soccer team will close out its Colorado rod trip on Sunday with a match in Denver against Metropolitan State University. Game time is 1:00 p.m. Eastern Time.
