Garden City, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport women's soccer team played a strong match on Tuesday night, as the visiting Purple Knights battled the host Adelphi University Panthers to a hard-fought, 2-2 double overtime tie on Long Island in clash of regional heavyweights. With the draw, Bridgeport is now 4-3-1 overall, and Adelphi moves to 7-1-1 on the season.
UB grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first half on a pair of goals from junior Nara DaCosta (Pancas, Brazil), who now has five tallies on the season.
DaCosta's first goal of the evening came just 1:31 into action when she fired home a rebound off a shot from freshman Anisha Hill (Woking, England).
Nara would then give the Purple Knights a 2-0 which they held at halftime, when she fired a blast into the top corner of the net in 37th minute.
The host Panthers would come back to tie the match at 2-2 with goals in the 56th and 63rd minutes, and neither team would find the back of net for the remainder of the contest.
UB senior goalkeeper Jennifer Wendelius (Lidingo, Sweden) was strong in net on Tuesday making 10 saves, as did her counterpart Sarah Hofmeier from Adelphi.
The Panthers held a slight advantage in shots in Tuesday's match, 21-20.
Up next, the UB women's soccer team will continue a busy week of action when they travel to the Philadelphia-area on Thursday night to face East Coast Conference newcomer, Lincoln (Pa.) University. Match time is set for 7:00 p.m.
