Bridgeport, Conn.-Junior Elin Eklund (Gothenburg, Sweden) scored two first half goals, and senior goalkeeper Jennifer Wendelius (Lidingo, Sweden) made five saves in net to help lead the University of Bridgeport women's soccer team to a 2-1 East Coast Conference home victory over the visiting St. Thomas Aquinas Spartans at Knights Field on Friday night. With the win, UB is now 4-3-0 overall and 2-1-0 in the ECC. STAC is now 3-3-1 overall and 1-2-1 in conference play.
Eklund scored her first goal of the night at 11:59 mark of action when she drove home a rebound off a shot from freshman Anisha Hill (Woking, England).
Elin would then find the back of the net with what would prove to be the game-winning goal when she scored with just over five minutes to play in the first half off an assist from classmate Rebecca Niblett (Fleet Hampshire, England).
Up next, the UB women's soccer team will travel to Adelphi University for a non-conference tilt on Tuesday evening. Match time on Long Island is slated for 6:00 p.m.
