Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's soccer team scored six goals in the first 17:42 of play and a total of seven goals in the first half, as the Purple Knights picked up their ninth win a row and remained perfect in East Coast Conference play at 6-0-0 with a 7-3 home win over the visiting Daemen College Wildcats on Sunday afternoon. UB is now 12-3-0 overall. With the loss, the Wildcats are 4-9-2 overall and 1-6-1 in the ECC. Sunday also marked fifth time this season, the Purple Knights, who have outscored their opposition 55-14 so far in 2016, have tallied at least seven goals in a match.
Senior Shannon Colligan (Greenwich, Conn.) scored two goals on Sunday to give her ten for the season.
UB graduate student Idoia Agirre (Legazpi, Spain) scored her team-high eighteenth goal of 2016 off an assist from senior Lauren Mengel (Gilbertsville, Pa.), who notched her first point of the year on that helper. Agirre now has scored goals in eight straight matches.
Senior Hanne Neby (Furnes, Norway) had a goal and contributed her ninth assist on Sunday, and classmate Nicola Worthington (Chorley, England) had one goal and two assists for the winners. Worthington also now has nine assists on the season.
Graduate student Amanda Moura (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) and junior Amy Strath (Aberdeen, Scotland) rounded out the Bridgeport goal scorers on the day.
Senior Julia Weidenmark (Varnamo, Sweden) and junior Nicole Greenwald (Levittown, N.Y.) completed the UB scorers in the win, as they each had one assist.
Freshman Anneliese Jennings (Warminster, Pa.), the first of three Bridgeport goalkeepers on the day, played the first 45 minutes of play to earn her first collegiate victory.
Up next, the UB women's soccer team will play its 2016 regular season home finale on Wednesday evening at 6:00 p.m. when the Purple Knights host Queens (N.Y.) College for Senior Day.
