New Haven, Conn.-Newcomer Shannon Colligan (Sr., Greenwich, Conn.) scored both goals as the University of Bridgeport women's soccer team moved to 2-0 on the young 2016 season with a 2-1 win over the host Southern Connecticut University Owls in the final match of the season-opening SCSU Women's Soccer Classic. With the loss, SCSU is now 0-2 on the season.
Colligan gave the visiting Purple Knights a 1-0 lead at the 20:44 mark of action with her first goal in a UB uniform.
Her second goal of the day came off a penalty kick at the 75:13 mark to give UB a 2-0 lead.
SCSU would make the match a 2-1 contest just 1:26 later when Christine Allard found the back of net, but that was all the scoring on the afternoon, as UB held on for the 2-1 win.
The UB women's soccer team will be back in action on Wednesday night at Adelphi University in a rematch of last year's NCAA East Regional Final at Adelphi University. Game time is 7:00 p.m. Bridgeport won last season's NCAA East Regional Final at Knights Field by a 2-1 score.
