Women's Soccer Runs Winning Streak To Four With 3-0 Home Win Over Wilmington (Del.) University
UB Set For Big ECC Clash With Dowling On Saturday
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's soccer team picked up its fourth straight win after opening the 2013 season with a loss, as the Purple Knights defeated Wilmington (Del.) University, 3-0, in a home, non-conference tilt on Wednesday evening. UB is now 4-1-0 on the season, and the Wildcats slip to 1-4-0.
Freshman Julia Weidenmark (Varnamo, Sweden) scored the first goal of the match and her third of the season with just over three minutes to play in the first half.
Junior Danielle Puddefoot (Slough, England) gave the Purple Knights some insurance when she hammered home her first goal of 2013 at the 77:54 mark off a scramble from a corner kick.
Freshman Johanna Wilroth (Vasteras, Sweden) netted the final goal of the night when she took a perfect pass from classmate Lauren Mengel (Gilbertsville, Pa) to fire home her second tally of 2013.
Bridgeport dominated the match both on offense and defense as they had 24 shots at the Wildcats goal and limited Wilmington to a total of only five shots.
Wilmington goalkeeper Julia Brown was outstanding making 11 saves on the night.
UB goalkeeper Julia Hansson (Sr., Tockfors, Sweden) picked up her third shutout of the season making three saves in net.
Up next for the Purple Knights is a key ECC contest on Saturday afternoon against Dowling College. Action is slated to begin at 3:00 p.m.
