Women's Soccer Defeats Molloy, 4-0
Four Different Players Score In The Win.
Bridgeport, Conn.-Four different players scored as the University of Bridgeport women's soccer team posted a 4-0 East Coast Conference home win over the Molloy College Lions on Sunday night. With the win, the Purple Knights are now 8-3-1 overall and 3-1-1 in ECC play. Molloy falls to 4-8-1 overall and 2-3-0 in conference action.
Junior Marie Pettersson (Amal, Sweden) got UB on the board with her first goal of the season when she scored off a free kick just over 10 minutes into the contest.
Pettersson's goal would be the only score in the first half, before senior Linda Velaj (Stamford, Conn.) would net her seventh goal of 2010 in the 48th minute; freshman Berglind Bjarnadottir (Reykjavik, Iceland) scored her seventh of the year in the 61st minute, and freshman Gabbie Giaquinto (West Haven, Conn.) scored the first goal of her college career with just over one minute to play in the tilt.
Freshman goalkeeper Julia Hansson (Tocksfors, Sweden) made six saves to record her fourth shutout of the season.
Bridgeport will be back in action on Wednesday afternoon when the Purple Knights travel to New Jersey for a non-conference match at Georgian Court University.
