Velaj's Hat Trick Helps Power UB Women's Soccer Over Bentley
Purple Knights Take 5-0 Win Over The Visiting Falcons.
Bridgeport, Conn.-Senior Linda Velaj (Stamford, Conn.) scored a hat trick and added one assist to help lead the University of Bridgeport women's soccer team to a 5-0 non-conference home win over the Bentley University Falcons on Wednesday night. Velaj scored the match's first goal 13:52 into play and then hit the back of net in the 47th and 73rd minutes to raise her season total to six goals, which leads the Purple Knights.
With the win, Bridgeport is now 6-2-0 overall on the season. Bentley remains winless at 0-6-2. UB has now won three matches in a row, and six of their last seven tilts.
Joining Velaj in the goal scoring column on Wednesday were
junior Katie
Stanley (Oxon, England) and freshman Berglind
Bjarnadottir (Reykjavik, Iceland), who both notched
their fifth goals of 2010.
Sophomore Asia
Pulse (New Haven, Conn.) assisted on two of Velaj's
goals.
Junior goalkeeper Julia Colley (Harlow, England) made two saves to record her first shutout of the season.
UB dominated the contest taking 23 shots; while Bentley managed only five over the 90 minutes.
Bridgeport is back in action on the road on Saturday for an important East Coast Conference match, as the Purple Knights travel to C.W. Post. Action gets underway on Long Island at 12 noon.
