Women's Lacrosse Topped by Wilmington, 17-10
Purple Knights fall to 1-2 in the CACC this season.
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – In a rematch of last year's CACC playoff game, the University of Bridgeport's women's lacrosse team was defeated by Wilmington University on Saturday by a score of 17-10. The loss shifts the Purple Knights' record to 3-5 this season (1-2, CACC).
It was a trio of hat tricks that led UB's offense on Saturday. Max McDermott served as the team leader with five points off three goals and two assists.
McDermott continues to lead the Purple Knights in points this season with 31 (22G, 9A).
Juniors Tara Dimaio and Emily Stuart also found the back of the net three times while Tereza Kreuzova tallied a goal in the game as well.
Stuart's offensive output was part of a sensational stat line that featured four caused turnovers, four draw controls and three ground balls.
Sophomore defender Kaley Maxwell joined in with terrific contributions of her own. The Long Island native led Bridgeport in both ground balls (5) and caused turnovers (5)—both of which served as new career bests.
As a team, the Purple Knights finished with a season high in caused turnovers (22). Six different UB players tallied multiple CTs in the game.
More defensive numbers included goalkeeper Jackie Mellia finishing with 12 stops. She is currently ranked fourth in the CACC in total saves this season (70).
