Women's Lacrosse Posts 19-3 Win at STAC
Purple Knights piled up season highs in goals (19), assists (14) and shots on goal (25).
SPARKILL, N.Y. – Propelled by season-high goal and assist totals, the University of Bridgeport's women's lacrosse team tallied a 19-3 win at St. Thomas Aquinas College on Wednesday. The win moves the Purple Knights' record to 3-4 this season (1-1, CACC).
It was a dominant effort from the road squad as UB scored the game's first 10 goals. The Purple Knights led 9-0 at halftime and then 13-1 after three quarters.
Bridgeport's impressive outing featured a 15-for-15 performance in clears, a 25-10 advantage in shots on goal and a 33-18 disparity in ground balls.
Individually speaking, it was a pair of four-goal efforts and a seven-assist stat line that led the way for UB.
Tara Dimaio and Max McDermott each found the back of the net four times while Elizabeth Pitts dished out a remarkable seven assists. Pitts also added a goal for a game-high and career-high eight points.
Pitts' seven assists are the second most in a game by any player in the CACC this season. They also represent the second highest total of any UB player in program history.
McDermott, meanwhile, supplemented her scoring with three assists to finish with a career-best seven points. She is now UB's leader in points this season with 26 (19G, 7A).
Dimaio also picked up an assist to go along with a team-high seven ground balls. She is currently ranked second in the CACC in total GBs this season (29).
Sophomore Cassidy Dalton enjoyed a terrific game of her own on Wednesday. The West Haven native put together a new career best with three goals in the win.
Emily Stuart continued her torrid stretch as well against the Spartans. The junior midfielder nabbed a team-high seven draw controls for the third straight contest.
Stuart, who also had four ground balls in the game, has climbed up to fourth in the CACC in draw controls per contest (4.57) this season.
Samantha Targonski and Ava Robalino rounded out Bridgeport's multi-goal scorers on Wednesday with a pair of tallies each.
Senior captain Jackie Mellia earned the win in net. She finished with seven saves in a little over 40 minutes of action.
