Women's Lacrosse Cruises Past Felician in CACC Opener
Purple Knights score the final nine goals of the first half.
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Playing at home for the first time this season, the University of Bridgeport's women's lacrosse team cruised to a 15-4 win over Felician on Friday night. The triumph puts the Purple Knights' record at 2-2 overall this season and 1-0 in the CACC.
It was a dominant effort from the home squad in their first conference game of the year. The Purple Knights scored the final nine goals of the first half to take an 11-2 lead into the break.
UB went on to lead by as many as 12 goals in the fourth quarter.
Bridgeport's decisive effort was fueled by a 17-6 margin in draw controls. Samantha Targonski led the way with a season-high eight of them.
Offensively, it was an extremely balanced affair. Four Purple Knights finished with at least three goals in the win and seven different players tallied at least one point.
Graduate captain Tereza Kreuzova put in a team-best four tallies while Max McDermott, Tara Dimaio and Elizabeth Pitts each added hat tricks.
McDermott finished the game with a team-best five points (3G, 2A). She now has 102 points for her career.
Dimaio, meanwhile, posted team highs in both ground balls (6) and caused turnovers (5)—both of which served as new season bests as well.
In net, senior captain Jackie Mellia picked up her second win this season. She finished with five saves across more than 53 minutes of work.
Freshman Amber Militrano also saw action in goal, tallying the game's final three stops.
