Women's Lacrosse Rolls Southern Wesleyan for First Win of 2025
Purple Knights improve to 1-1 this season.
CENTRAL, S.C. – In the first of two games during a spring break trip to Georgia, the University of Bridgeport's women's lacrosse team posted a 17-4 win at Southern Wesleyan on Tuesday in Central S.C. The decisive victory improves the Purple Knights' record to 1-1 this season.
Coming off a tight loss on Saturday, it was a commanding response from UB. The Purple Knights turned a 1-0 deficit into a 9-1 lead midway through the second quarter.
UB stretched its lead to 16-2 through three quarters and as high as 15 goals early in the fourth.
Bridgeport's dominance featured advantages of 27-14 in shots on goal, 36-27 in ground balls and 14-11 in draw controls.
Individually, it was a balanced effort from the road squad. The Purple Knights had five players score multiple goals with Tereza Kreuzova registering a team-high five tallies for the second straight game.
Max McDermott and Tara Dimaio followed with hat tricks while Samantha Targonski and Emily Stuart each added two goals apiece.
Speaking of Targonski, she recorded a game-high eight draw controls to achieve a sensational milestone. The New Jersey native now has an even 200 DCs in her career.
Also on the milestone front, Emily Stuart notched her 100th career draw control in the game.
Defensively, Jackie Mellia picked up the win in net. The senior captain allowed just two goals and maneuvered six saves. Amber Militrano also saw action in net, totaling four stops in the fourth quarter.
