Women's Lacrosse Nipped at Saint Michael's in Season Opener, 12-11
Purple Knights unable to hold onto early leads.
COLCHESTER, Vt. – In their first game of the 2025 season, the University of Bridgeport's women's lacrosse team was defeated at Saint Michael's College on Saturday by a score of 12-11. The narrow loss starts the Purple Knights campaign at 0-1.
Bridgeport only mustered one goal in the second half after holding a 5-1 lead in the first quarter and a 10-8 edge at halftime.
The Purple Knights had a chance to send the game into overtime courtesy of a free-position with two seconds on the clock. Max McDermott's buzzer-beating attempt was saved by Saint Michael's goalkeeper Maddie Nutter.
McDermott finished with three goals in the game.
Tereza Kreuzova, meanwhile, registered a career-high five tallies to lead the Bridgeport offense. Kreuzova also added a pair of draw controls.
Tara Dimaio (twice) and Elizabeth Pitts found the back of net as well for UB. Dimaio also led the Purple Knights with four ground balls while Samantha Targonski secured a team-best four draw controls.
Defensively, Jackie Mellia was terrific in net despite the loss. The senior keeper made 12 stops across a complete 60 minutes.
