Dimaio and Mellia of Women's Lacrosse Earn CACC Weekly Awards
Dimaio: Player of the Week | Mellia: Goalkeeper of the Week
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – After helping the University of Bridgeport's women's lacrosse team to a dominant win on Saturday, sophomore Tara Dimaio and junior Jacklyn Mellia were each honored with CACC weekly awards on Monday.
Dimaio secured her third consecutive honor—this time being named the conference's Defensive Player of the Week for a second time. Mellia, meanwhile, earns her first career CACC Goalkeeper of the Week award.
Dimaio's sensational campaign continued with yet another strong effort in a 14-5 win over STAC. The Long Islander was all over the field, posting defensive totals of five caused turnovers and six ground balls. She also added three assists, two goals and five draw controls for the Bridgeport attack.
Dimaio currently leads the Purple Knights in points this season (31) while ranking first across the entire CACC in ground balls (26).
Mellia was also stout in UB's decisive triumph over the weekend. The Nanuet, N.Y. native rattled off 12 stops en route to earning her fifth win of the season. Mellia is currently slotted third in the CACC in save percentage (47.5%) and fourth in total saves (56).
The University of Bridgeport's women's lacrosse team will return to action on Wednesday with a home game against Caldwell at 4 p.m.
