Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's lacrosse team saw its four-game, season-opening winning streak snapped on Friday afternoon, as the Purple Knights were defeated at home by the visiting Dominican (N.Y.) college Chargers, 16-6. UB is now 4-1 on the year, and the Chargers move to 3-2 overall.
Shyla Murray (Grad., Brentwood, N.Y.) led the Purple Knights with three goals on the day.
UB also got single goals from seniors Danielle Kreitler (Shelton, Conn.), Jessica Kinser (Voorhees, N.J.) and Addison Plume (Glen Arm, Md.).
Freshman goalkeeper Jacklyn Mellia (Nanuet, N.Y.) faced 40 shots on the day and made a season-high 16 saves.
Up next, the Purple Knights will look to get back in the win column on Tuesday afternoon when they travel to Caldwell University for a 4:00 p.m. non-conference contest.
