Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's lacrosse team closed out its 2018 home schedule with a 20-7 East Coast Conference home loss against the visiting Molloy College Lions on Friday night at Knights Field. With the loss, UB is now 5-8 overall and 2-4 in conference play. Molloy ups its season record to 9-7 overall, and the Lions are 4-3 in the ECC.
Molloy raced out to a 11-4 halftime lead and new looked back outscoring the hosts, 9-3, in the second half.
Freshman Julia Ruscio (St. Catherines, Ontario, Canada) netted for goals for UB on Friday, and Bridgeport got solo tallies from sophomore Barbara Orsini (N. Babylon, N.Y.), juniors Amanda Fitzpatrick (New Hampton, N.Y.) and Ava Gambardella (West Haven, Conn.).
Sophomore goalkeeper Cheyanne Gangel (Oakridge, N.J.) made 14 saves for the Purple Knights on Friday.
Up next, the UB women's lacrosse team will look to snap a two-game losing skid at the University of the District of Columbia on Sunday at 12 noon.
