Five From Gymnastics Earn WCGNIC All-America Honors

FULL SUNDAY RESULTS (Individual Event Finals)

SHREVEPORT, La. – In recognition of superb performances during Friday night's semifinal round of the Women's Collegiate Gymnastics National Invitational Championship (WCGNIC), five members of the University of Bridgeport's gymnastics team earned All-America honors this weekend in Shreveport, La.

Junior Abby Kenney earned a trio of first-team WCGNIC All-America honors in addition to finishing third overall in the all-around. Nova Staruk (vault), Lola Sepulveda (vault) and Maggie Coyle (floor) also picked up first-team All-America distinction.

Emily Hernandez, meanwhile, earned second-team honors on vault.

Kenney's weekend featured a 38.950 in the all-around on Friday night followed by a season-best 39.125 in the team finals on Saturday.  

Kenney posted a trio of top-five finishes on Friday night to earn her All-America recognition. She tallied a pair of 9.8's on both floor and beam to tie for second in each of the events. She also boasted a 9.725 on bars to finish third.

Kenney capped off her weekend with a fifth-place finish in the individual finals on floor on Sunday. She wrapped up her year by matching a season-high with a score of 9.825.

Staruk and Sepulveda tallied their All-American awards courtesy of clutch performances on vault. Staruk placed third on Friday with a 9.750 while Sepulveda finished fifth in the same event courtesy of a 9.700.

Staruk continued her momentum with a fifth-place score on Sunday in the vault individual finals. She maneuvered a 9.750 in her final effort of the year.

Coyle, meanwhile, tied for second with Kenney on floor to snag her first-career All-America honor. She finished up with her fourth 9.800 of the season.

Hernandez nabbed second-team accolades thanks to a sixth-place tally on Friday night in the vault. She posted a score of 9.675.
