Kenney of Gymnastics Selected as WCGA's Division II Co-Gymnast of the Year
Finished with the second highest all-around NQS in Division II this season.
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Adding to an already illustrious resume, Abby Kenney of the University of Bridgeport's gymnastics team was named the 2025 WCGA Division II Co-Gymnast of the Year on Wednesday. She joins Kaitlyn Hoiland from Texas Woman's University as this year's honorees.
Kenney, who was previously named a regular-season All-American by the WCGA, has been nothing short of marvelous during her junior campaign. She finished with the second-highest NQS (38.920) in the all-around across all of Division II while leading the Purple Knights to their best-ever finish (3rd) at the GEC Championships in March.
Kenney's sensational season also featured her earning an incredible five All-GEC honors in addition to winning the all-around competition at seven different meets. She also picked up a pair of GEC Gymnast of the Week awards.
Amongst the great efforts, Kenney posted a season-best mark of 39.075 in the all-around at LIU in mid-February. She also tallied a season-high mark on vault (9.775) that day. Kenney's other season-best scores include a 9.825 on floor (Jan. 12), a 9.875 on beam (Feb. 2) and a 9.775 on bars (Feb. 9). All in all, she piled up 17 different marks of 9.75 or better this year.
The WCGA's year-end awards are voted on by the head coaches within each region. These athletes represent the highest level of competitive excellence and sportsmanship.
Kenney and the rest of UB's gymnastics team will return to action at the Women's Collegiate Gymnastics National Invitational Championship (WCGNIC) this weekend (April 11-13) in Shreveport, La.
