Purple Knights Continue Strong Start To 2020 Gymnastics Season With First Place Finish At Brown Tri-Meet
UB Takes Top Spot On Sunday With A Team Score Of 193.750
Providence, R.I.-The University of Bridgeport women's gymnastics team continued its strong start to the 2020 on Sunday afternoon by taking first place in a tri-meet hosted by Brown University. The Purple Knights posted a team score of 193.750 on Sunday to surpass second place Brown (191.875) and Rhode Island College (181.650).
As a team, Bridgeport scored 48.625 on the vault, 47.900 on the bars, 48.650 on the beam and 48.575 on the floor.
For the second straight meet, sophomore Julianna Roland (Lumberton, N.J.) took first place in all-around competition for the Purple Knights compiling a score of 38.325 in the four events. Juilanna finished the afternoon with first places on the vault (9.800) and the balance beam (9.850), and she tied for second in the floor exercise with a score of 9.750.
UB junior Gabrielle Kistner (Raleigh, N.C) finished third in Sunday's all-around with a total of 37.500.
The Purple Knights went one-two-three on the balance beam, as following Roland's first place, freshman Katy Koopman (Kaneohe, Hawaii) took second place at 9.750 and freshman Hannah Barry (West Hartford, Conn.) grabbed third place with a score of 9.725.
Bridgeport dominated the vault on Sunday with Roland on top followed by senior Maya Reimers (New York, N.Y.) in second place at 9.725, and Koopman, Kistner and Caitlin Gray (Newington, Conn.) tied for third at 9.700.
Maya Reimers also took first place in the floor exercise on Sunday with a score of 9.850.
On the bars, sophomore Hayley Bangart (Castle Rock, Colo.) and junior Regan Dillon (Delano, Minn.) tied for second place with career-high scores of 9.800.
Up next, the UB women's gymnastics team will begin a busy weekend with three meets in three days beginning with a tri-meet at Temple University on Friday evening along with Ursinus. Action is slated to begin at 7:00 p.m. in Philadelphia.
