Women's Basketball Stopped by Felician, 65-54
Ana Gascon finishes with 12 points, eight rebounds and two steals.
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – In the first of two home games this week, the University of Bridgeport's women's basketball team dropped a 65-54 matchup to Felician on Tuesday night.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
An extremely efficient performance from Shakira Hester served as a highlight for the Purple Knights. The graduate forward tallied a team-high 16 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the field. She also tallied seven rebounds and a block.
Hester now leads the CACC in blocks per game this season (1.4) while ranking fifth in the conference in rebounding (7.7 rpg).
UB's other standout performances included Ana Gascon grabbing a team-best eight rebounds while four different players (Harmony Earth-Wiley, Ciera Cevallos, Niyah Whitten, Mackenzie Creighton) dished out a team-high three assists.
Gascon's stat line also featured 12 points and two steals. Gascon currently ranks in the top-10 in the CACC in both steals and rebounds this season.
A large free-throw disparity told part of the story on Tuesday. Felician finished 13-of-24 from the line while UB attempted just two foul shots, making one.
As a team, Bridgeport's offense featured a 24-of-54 (44.4%) effort from the field and a 5-for-16 (31.3%) clip from long range. UB's field-goal percentage against Felician is their second highest of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing by 10 at halftime and by as many as 12 in the third quarter, the Purple Knights hung tough.
UB cut the Felician advantage to just 47-46 with 8:18 on the clock in the fourth quarter. From there, Felician closed the game on an 18-8 run.
After cutting the edge to just one point, Bridgeport missed seven of its next eight shots from the floor.
A three-pointer by Felician's Erica Egan, followed by two free throws from Stephanie Formby, put the Golden Falcons up 62-52 with less than a minute left.
Felician missed just two shots in the first quarter as the road squad built a 21-13 lead after 10 minutes.
