NEW BRITAIN, Conn. – Playing against a Division I foe for the first time since 2019, the University of Bridgeport's women's basketball team suffered a 66-25 defeat at Central Connecticut State on Friday.
The Purple Knights trailed by just two points after the first quarter but were unable to sustain that momentum. CCSU closed the first half on a 16-5 run before outscoring Bridgeport, 19-2, in the third quarter.
UB's troubles came from 31 turnovers and a 10-of-49 (20.4%) effort from the field, which included 1-for-16 (6.3%) from three-point range.
Shakira Hester led Bridgeport with six points, five rebounds and two blocks. Ana Gascon and Zahkiyyah Frazier also grabbed five boards in the contest.
Niyah Whitten knocked in UB's lone three-pointer while finishing with five points and four rebounds.
Eight different players tallied at least one point for Bridgeport and 11 different Purple Knights grabbed a board.
