BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Playing at home for the first time this season, the University of Bridgeport's women's basketball team (0-4) was defeated by Southern Connecticut State (4-0) on Saturday by a score of 59-48.
The Purple Knights were led by a pair of 10-point efforts from Harmony Earth-Wiley and Niyah Whitten. Earth-Wiley made all four of her field-goal attempts.
Bridgeport, which outrebounded SCSU by five, were led by 13 boards from Ana Gascon and 10 from Shakira Hester. Gascon also notched a team-high three assists.
Bridgeport made a season-best 17-of-23 from the free-throw line while shooting 14-for-34 from the field. SCSU attempted 28 more shots from the floor than UB.
Defensively, the Purple Knights held SCSU to their lowest point total so far this season. The Owls entered the game averaging 86.3 points per contest.
Bridgeport finished with four steals and three blocks while limiting SCSU to 19-of-62 (30.6%) shooting from the field.
