Women's Basketball Falls to No. 3 Jefferson in CACC Quarterfinals

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – A valiant effort from the University of Bridgeport women's basketball team ended in a 64-48 loss to third-ranked Jefferson University (28-1) on Tuesday night in the CACC Quarterfinals.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Purple Knights hung tough through three-plus quarters before the top-seeded Rams pulled away. UB led 40-39 with 2:29 remaining in the third quarter before Jefferson closed the period on an 8-1 run.
Bridgeport would then cut the edge to 51-46 at 6:36 of the fourth quarter, but that would be as close as it would get. Jefferson closed the contest with a 13-2 run.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
Senior Samirah Akinwunmi served as UB's top scorer with 13 points off four three-pointers and a free throw. She also added seven rebounds.
Shakira Hester and Stephanie McBride joined in double figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Hester's stat line also featured nine rebounds, six assists and three blocks.
McBride added three blocks as well and will finish the season ranked first in the CACC in blocks per game (2.1).
Bridgeport dished out 15 assists on 17 baskets as they finished 17-for-47 (36.2%) from the field.
The Purple Knights made seven of their 21 attempts from three-point range and 7-for-12 from the free-throw line.
