Women's Basketball Drops Overtime Contest to Felician
Stephanie McBride put in a team-high 11 points while Shakira Hester and Niyah Whitten each put in 10.
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Seeing overtime action for the first time this season, the University of Bridgeport's women's basketball team dropped a 50-43 contest to Felician on Tuesday night.
Tied at 41-41 after 40 minutes, the Golden Falcons outscored UB, 9-2, in the extra period. Felician made five of its first six shots while scoring the first nine points of OT.
It was a Tariah Bryant layup with 10 seconds left in regulation that forced the extra five minutes. Bryant finished with seven points in the game.
UB's offense was led by a trio of double-digit scorers. Stephanie McBride tallied a team-high 11 points while Shakira Hester and Niyah Whitten each put in 10.
McBride also registered team highs in both rebounds (11) and blocks (4). Now with 10 double-doubles this season, McBride continues to lead the CACC in blocked shots per game (2.2).
Hester joined McBride with a double-double of her own, matching her 10 points with 10 rebounds.
Defensively, the Purple Knights limited Felician to just 19-of-62 shooting (30.6%) from the field while forcing 17 turnovers. UB also finished with six steals.
In a tight game throughout, there were a total of 12 ties and eight lead changes. Bridgeport led by three at halftime and after three quarters.
