Women's Basketball Drops Non-Conference Game to STAC, 59-45
UB's final contest outside of the CACC this season.
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Playing their final non-conference game of the season, the University of Bridgeport's women's basketball team dropped a 59-45 contest to Saint Thomas Aquinas College on Wednesday night.
After an even 12-12 first quarter, STAC outscored the Purple Knights by 47-33 across the final 30 minutes. The Spartans saw their advantage grow to as high as 18 points in the second quarter and 17 in the fourth.
Inside the Numbers
Individually, Stephanie McBride put together one of her best games of the season. The Brooklyn, N.Y. native poured in 19 points, on 9-of-11 shooting, while grabbing eight rebounds. She also chipped in a pair of blocks.
McBride is averaging 9.3 boards per game over her last 10 contests. She is currently ranked fourth in the CACC in that category while also leading the league in blocks.
Shakira Hester joined McBride with two blocks, and in double figures with 11 points. She also added 11 rebounds to secure her fifth double-double of the season. Hester has grabbed 26 rebounds in the last two games.
As a team, the Purple Knights registered five blocks. They have now tallied 18 blocks over their last four games.
Offensively, UB made just three of its 20 attempts from long range while finishing 20-for-53 from the field.
