Women's Basketball Wins at Bloomfield, 67-50
The Purple Knights’ starting five all finished in double figures while combining for 65 total points.
BLOOMFIELD, N.J. – Highlighted by an entire starting five finishing in double figures, the University of Bridgeport's women's basketball team earned a 67-50 win at Bloomfield College on Wednesday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After a Tariah Bryant three-pointer provided the Purple Knights a 7-6 lead in the first quarter, Bridgeport never trailed again. The visitors slowly built up their lead, including a 7-point edge after the first quarter and a 10-point advantage at halftime.
Bridgeport stretched its lead to as high as 17 points in the second half, while never holding an edge of less than 10 points.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
The Purple Knights' starting five scored all but two of their points on Wednesday night.
Seniors Shakira Hester (18 pts, 12 rebs.) and Stephanie McBride (14 pts., 16 rebs., 4 blocks) were especially impressive, combining for 32 points, 28 rebounds and five blocks. McBride's rebound total included an incredible eight offensive boards.
Bryant also chipped in a very solid stat line of 11 points and five assists while sophomore Niyah Whitten added 12 points and four rebounds.
Bridgeport's dominant starting five also featured freshman Harmony Earth-Wiley, who finished with 10 points and four boards.
The Purple Knights' success on the glass also helped tell the story as they outrebounded Bloomfield by a 56-37 margin. In fact, Bridgeport's 56 total boards marks a new season high.
Bridgeport also tied a season best with seven blocks in the game.
