McBride Scores A Career-High 25 Points And Grabs A Career-Best 20 Rebounds For The Winners
Bridgeport, Conn.-A strong second half that saw the host University of Bridgeport outscore the visiting Queens (N.Y.) College Knights, 43-37, and a career day for junior Stephanie McBride (Brooklyn, N.Y.) helped lift the Purple Knights to their first East Coast Conference win of the season on Sunday afternoon at home, as UB edged Queens, 67-66. Bridgeport is now 4-12 overall and 1-8 in the ECC. QC falls to 1-13 overall and 1-7 in conference play.
Bridgeport trailed, 29-24, at the hald, before coming back to post the win.
Sunday's game was a back-and-forth affair that featured 11 ties and nine lead changes between the two teams.
McBride dominated the paint all game long for the winners scoring a career-high 25 points and grabbing a career-best 20 rebounds, 12 of which came on the offensive glass that help her team score 46 points in the paint and 17 second chance points. She also blocked two shots in the contest.
Stephanie was joined in double figures by sophomore Brianna Meekins (Bridgeport, Conn.) with 15 points, and graduate student Emily Brown (Haledon, N.J.) contributed 10 points.
Khadija Demry led four Queens' players in double-digit scoring with 18 points.
Up next, the UB women's basketball team will look to begin a winning streak when the Purple Knights host St. Thomas Aquinas College at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening in Hubbell Gym.
