Samirah Henderson And Stephanie McBride Earn Weekly ECC Women's Basketball Honors
Henderson Named The ECC Player Of The Week And McBride Selected As The Conference Defensive Player Of The Week
West Babylon, N.Y.-Two University of Bridgeport women's basketball standouts, graduate student Samirah Henderson (Rahway, N.J.) and junior Stephanie McBride (Brooklyn, N.Y.) have been recognized for their outstanding play in game that took place from November 22 through 28, 2021 with weekly East Coast Conference awards. Henderson has been selected as the ECC Women's Basketball Player of the Week, and McBride has been named the conference's Defensive Player of the Week.
Samirah helped UB go 1-1 last week averaging 25.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 6.5 assists per game. Henderson was red-hot shooting the basketball last week, as she connected on 60.7 percent of her field goal attempts (17-of-28), plus she went 12-of-20 from behind the three-point line. Against Post, she scored a career and ECC season-high 31 points. She followed that up with 19 points in a win over Nyack in the Purple Knights' home opener on Saturday. So far this season, Samirah leads UB in scoring and is tied for the top spot in the ECC, averaging 18.8 points per game.
McBride averaged 10.5 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game last week. She also added one steal on the week, plus averaged a double-double on the week scoring 16.5 points in the two outings. On the season, Stephanie is averaging just shy of a double-double leading the Purple Knights on the glass, averaging 9.4 rebounds per game, plus 14.8 points per game. She also leads the team with a total of 11 blocks.
This week, the UB women's basketball team will host Pace University at 7:00 p.m. on Friday evening.
