Strong Fourth Quarter Lifts UB Women To Road Win Over UDC
Purple Knights Top Firebirds, 53-46
Washington, D.C.-The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team outscored the host University of the District of Columbia Firebirds, 14-7, in the fourth quarter to post a 53-46 East Coast Conference road win on Saturday afternoon in our Nation's Capital. The victory, which snaps a 10-game losing streak for UB, moves the Purple Knights to 5-19 overall and 3-9 in conference play. The Firebirds are now 7-17 overall and also 3-9 in the ECC. Bridgeport swept this year's season series from UDC.
With game tied at 49-49, UB freshman Gracen Kerr (Ansonia, Conn.) knocked down a three-point with 1:50 to play to give the visitors a 53-49 lead which they never relinquished.
Junior Samirah Henderson (Rahway, N.J.) led Bridgeport in scoring with 15 points, and she also dished off five assists for the winners.
She was joined in double-digit scoring by senior Kyle Felton (Lithonia, Ga.) who netted 14 points and also grabbed nine rebounds on the day.
Senior Jaqualah Holliman (Boston, Mass.) led UB on the boards with 10 rebounds.
Up next, the UB women's basketball team will continue its three-game road trip at New York Tech on Wednesday night. Game time is set for 5:00 p.m.
