Roberts Wesleyan Rallies Past Women's Basketball In Overtime
Purple Knights Suffer Their Third Straight Loss By A Score Of 92-89
Rochester, N.Y.-The host Roberts Wesleyan College women's basketball team rallied from a 10-point, 70-60, deficit with 5:43 remaining in the fourth quarter, to send the game into overtime tied at 80-80 when Brooke Fields, who led all scorers with 33 points on the night, hit a layup with 13 seconds play in regulation, and Redhawks would then go on to post a 92-89 overtime East Coast Conference win over the vesting University of Bridgeport Purple Knights.
Trailing 35-34 with 4:41 to play in the second quarter, UB closed the first half out on an 11-0 run to take a 45-35 lead at the half, and the Purple Knights would not be behind again until RWC scored the first three points in overtime to grab an 83-80 edge which they never relinquished. With the loss, Bridgeport is now an even 11-11 overall and 5-7 in the ECC. Roberts Wesleyan raises its overall record to 13-9, and the Redhawks are now 7-5 in conference play.
Senior Camera Miley (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led the Purple Knights with 24 points, and she fell just shy of a double-double with nine assists.
Graduate student Anastasia Williams (Central Islip, N.Y.) picked up an impressive double-double on Friday night off the UB bench with 17 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.
Sophomore Nicole Johnson (Newark, N.J.) rounded out the Bridgeport double-digit scorers with 12 points.
Up next, the UB women's basketball team will look to snap a three-game losing at home on Saturday, February 11 when the Purple Knights host Molloy College. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
