Women's Hoops Battles But Falls In ECC Action At Molloy, 70-63
Senior Camera Miley Nets A Game-High 26 Points For The Purple Knights
Rockville Centre, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team trailed by as many as 17 points early in the fourth quarter at Molloy College on a snowy Saturday afternoon on Long Island, but the visiting Purple Knights battled back to make a game of it before falling to the host Lions, 70-63, in East Coast Conference action. UB is now an even 8-8 overall and 2-4 in conference play. Molloy picks up its fourth straight victory, as the Lions are now 12-4 overall and 4-2 in the ECC.
With the score tied, 34-34, with 6:38 to play in the third quarter, Molloy closed the period on a 19-7 run to take a 53-41 lead into the fourth quarter which they never relinquished.
Bridgeport senior Camera Miley (Brooklyn, N.Y.) led all scorers on the afternoon with 26 points. Miley was joined in double-digit scoring by junior Aurelie Leblanc-Florent (Longueuil, Quebec, Canada) with 11 points, plus sophomore Nicole Johnson (Newark, N.J.) netted 10 points.
Molloy was led by double-doubles from Kamala Thompson with 21 points and 12 rebounds, and Symone Kelly with 21 points and a game-high 15 rebounds.
Up next, the UB women's basketball team will look to snap a four-game losing streak when they return to Long Island to face LIU Post on Wednesday night. Tip-off is set for 5:00 p.m.
