Women's Basketball Tops 100-Point Plateau For First Time Since 1995-96 Season In 103-75 Victory At Chestnut Hill
Purple Knights Now 7-1 On the Season
Philadelphia, Pa.-The University of Bridgeport women's basketball raced out to a 36-13 lead after the first quarter and never looked back, as the Purple Knights picked up their seventh consecutive victory with a 103-75 non-conference road win over the host Chestnut Hill College Griffins on Wednesday night. Bridgeport is now 7-1 overall, and CHC slips to 5-3 overall. The 103 points are the most points the UB women's basketball program has scored in a single game since the Purple Knights netted 113 versus Quinnipiac during the 1995-96 campaign.
Junior Aurelie Leblanc-Florent, who led all scorers in the game with 28 points, was red-hot in the first quarter netting 15 points, as she connected on five three-point shots.
Leblanc-Florent was joined in double-figure scoring by seniors Camera Miley (Brooklyn, N.Y.) with 19 points, Aaliyah Mercer (Bronx, N.Y.) with 12 points and Evelyn Ovner (Vallentuna, Sweden) added 11 points with seven rebounds and five assists. Miley also had five assists on the night.
UB sophomore Samnell Vonleh (Swampscott, Mass) dominated the paint for the winners, as she fell just short of a double-double grabbing a game-high 14 rebounds with nine points. Samnell also blocked seven shots on the night.
Graduate student Anastasia Williams (Central Islip, N.Y.) joined Vonleh with double-digit rebounds, as she cleaned the glass with 11 boards.
Caity Kuhnen led four Griffins in double figures with a team-high 18 points.
Up next, the UB women's basketball team will look to extend its winning streak to eight, when the Purple Knights return to East Coast Conference play at home on Saturday afternoon versus Daemen College. Game time is Hubbell Gym is set for 1:00 p.m.
