Purple Knights Top Queens, 59-50, As Women's Basketball Earns First Road Win Of The Season
Tanisha Carter Garners Another Double-Double With 18 Points And 10 Boards
Flushing, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team won its first road game of the 2011-12 season and evened its East Coast Conference record at 2-2 with a 59-50 win at Queens (N.Y.) College on Saturday afternoon. Bridgeport is now 4-10 overall. Queens falls to 1-12 overall and 0-3 in conference action.
Junior Tanisha Carter (East Hartford, Conn.) led UB of offense with 18 points, and she notched a double-double on the day grabbing 10 rebounds, seven of which came of the offensive glass. Carter was joined in double figures by three teammates, all seniors, as Edna Marant (Philadelphia, Pa.) had 16 points plus Elinor Avny (Raanaana, Israel) and Julia Colley (Harlow, England) each scored 10 points.
Queens was led by Nicole Caggiano who scored a game-high 19 points playing all 40 minutes of the tilt.
Bridgeport is back in action on Wednesday evening when they open a string of three straight games at home with a 5:00 p.m. East Coast Conference contest against Molloy College.
