Stonehill Railles Past Women's Basketball, 65-61
Purple Knights Return To ECC Action On Saturday At Home Versus Mercy
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team suffered its fourth straight loss as the Purple Knights saw the visiting Stonehill College Skyhawks rally from being down as many as 10 points in the first half to post a 65-61 non-conference victory on Tuesday night. With the loss, UB is now 1-8 overall. Stonehill raises its record to 6-5 overall.
In the first half, Bridgeport led 23-13 with just under eight minutes to play, but Stonehill closed out the first 20 minutes on 15-7 to trail by only two points, 30-28, at the half.
In the second half, the Skyhawks took a 41-40 lead with 15:02 to play on a layup by Asia Ewing and never trailed in the game from that point on.
Senior Julia Colley (Harlow, England) led UB in scoring with 18 points, and she also grabbed eight rebounds.
Colley was joined in double-figure scoring by junior Tanisha Carter (E. Hartford, Conn.) who had a double-double with 16 points and a game-high 10 rebounds, and senior Elinor Avny (Raanaana, Israel), who netted 12 points on four three-point shots.
Mary Louise Dixon led four Stonehill players in double figures 19 points.
The Bridgeport women will look to get back in the win column on Saturday afternoon when they return to East Coast Conference play as they host Mercy College. Game time in Hubbell Gym is set for 1:00 p.m.
