Women's Basketball Gives Undefeated Franklin Pierce All They Can Handle But Drops A Tough 70-62 Decision
Senior Elinor Avny Leads UB WIth A Season-High 21 Points
Bridgeport, Conn.-The Franklin Pierce University women's basketball team remained undefeated on the 2011-12 season with a 70-62 road win over the host University of Bridgeport Purple Knights on Friday evening. With the victory, the Ravens are now 6-0 on the year. UB falls to 1-6 overall.
Marielle Giroud led FPU with 20 points and 13 rebounds.
Senior Elinor Avny (Raanaana, Israel) led Bridgeport with a season-high 21 points. Elinor connected on six three-point shots on the night.
Joining Avny in double-figure scoring were junior Tanisha Carter (East Hartford, Conn.) with 15 points, and sophomore Aziza Patterson (Teaneck, N.J.) with 11 points.
Franklin Pierce led 37-35 at the half, and the Ravens won basically won the game out the foul line hitting 24 of 27 shots from the line; while UB went 8 of 10 from the stripe on the night.
The Bridgeport women are back in action next Wednesday night as they open East Coast Conference play at Dowling College.
