UB Shoots 50 Percent From The Floor As Women's Basketball Grabs First Win Of 2011-12 Season With 81-62 Victory Over Post
Tanisha Carter Leads Team With 22 Points And Nine Rebounds
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team picked up its first win of the 2011-12 season with a 81-62 non-conference win over the visiting Post University Eagles on Wednesday afternoon in Hubbell Gym. The Purple Knights are now 1-4 on the season, and the Eagles fall to 2-3 on the year.
With the score tied 20-20 with 11:41 to play in the first half, UB closed out the first 20 minutes of play on a 22-12 run to take a 42-32 halftime lead, and the Purple Knights were never challenged in the second half as the lead ballooned up to as many as 29 points with 9:45 to play.
Bridgeport was hot from the floor on Wednesday, connecting on 50 percent of their field goals (34 of 68). UB also forced Post into 23 turnovers in the contest.
Junior Tanisha Carter (East Hartford, Conn.) led Bridgeport with 22 points and nine rebounds on the afternoon.
Carter was joined in double-figure scoring by sophomore Milena Lazarevic (Gmunden, Austria) with 16 points, sophomore Aziza Patterson (Teaneck, N.J.) with 15 points and senior Julia Colley (Harlow, England) with 14 points. Patterson also chipped in six assists and three steals for the winners, and Colley added eight rebounds, four assists and three steals for UB.
Post's Aubrey Latham led all scorers on the day with 24 points.
Bridgeport will return to action on Wednesday, November 30 when the Purple Knights travel to Bloomfield College.
