Women's Hoops Falls At Merrimack, 72-70
Purple Knights Will Look For First Win Of The Season On Wednesday Afternoon At Home Against Post University
N. Andover, Mass. –The University of Bridgeport women's basketball team came up just short of capturing its first win of the 2011-12 season on Saturday afternoon, as the Purple Knights dropped a tough 72-70 road game versus Merrimack College. UB is now 0-4 on the year, and Merrimack is now 1-2.
After trailing 42-39 at the half, Bridgeport rallied to take a seven-point lead, 62-55 with 9:28 to play, but the Warriors rallied to outscored the Purple Knights, 17-8, during the remainder of the contest and saw a final shot to tie the game miss at the buzzer.
Senior Julia Colley (Harlow, England) led Bridgeport with a season-high 19 points. Classmate Elinor Avny (Raanaana, Israel) netted 17 points, as she hit 5-of-9 three-point shots. Junior Tanisha Carter (East Hartford, Conn.) played another solid game scoring 16 points and falling just shy of a double-double with nine rebounds.
The UB women are back in action at home on Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. when they host Post University in a pre-Thanksgiving tilt in Hubbell Gym.
