Hot-Shooting Dowling Women Top UB, 66-55
Purple Knights Back In Action At Mercy On Saturday Afternoon
Bridgeport, Conn.-The Dowling College women's basketball team used hot shooting from the floor, as they connected on 19 of 33 shots (57.6%) on the night, to overcome committing 31 turnovers, as the Golden Lions posted a 66-55 win over the host University of Bridgeport Purple Knights in an East Coast Conference contest played on Thursday night. With the win, Dowling is now 7-8 overall and 5-3 in ECC play. UB falls to 6-9 overall, and the Purple Knights are an even 4-4 in conference action.
Dowling's Connie Simmons led all scores in the contest with 23 points.
The Golden Lions dominated the game on the glass outrebounding Bridgeport 42 to 26, and they also held a big edge at the free throw line connecting on 23 of 34 foul shots; while the Purple Knights were 10 of 13 from the line.
Juniors Julia Colley (Harlow, England) and Edna Marant (Philadelphia, Pa.) led Bridgeport in scoring as they each tallied 14 points. Senior Kelly Keil (Sparta, N.J.) also reached double figures for the Purple Knights with 10 points.
Bridgeport is back in action on Saturday afternoon at Mercy College. Game time is 1:00 p.m.
