BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – In their final games of the 2025 regular season, the University of Bridgeport's softball team posted a doubleheader sweep of New Haven on Wednesday. The Purple Knights, who are the top seed in the upcoming CACC Tournament, will head into the postseason with an overall record of 32-12.
GAME ONE – Bridgeport 5, New Haven 1
After going down 1-0 in the first inning, UB responded with five unanswered runs in the opening triumph.
Paityn Thibodeaux immediately put the Purple Knights ahead with a two-run home run in the bottom half of the first inning while Samantha Ledger followed with a solo bomb in the second.
Ledger, who now has five home runs this season (2nd on team), added an RBI ground out in the sixth inning as well.
Angela Oros also performed well for the UB offense, scoring a pair of runs after singling twice.
UB's starting pitcher Kaite Burawski wrapped up her final regular season with another sensational performance. The graduate student allowed just one run on three hits in her 19th complete game of the year.
Burawski now owns a 17-4 record this season while leading the CACC in strikeouts (160), innings pitched (137.2), wins (17) and batting average against (.185). She is also slotted second in the league with a 1.73 ERA.
GAME TWO – Bridgeport 10, New Haven 9
The Purple Knights roared back from an 8-0 deficit in the second game of the day. Sydnee Perreault served as the hero for UB with a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Perreault's looper into right field with two outs plated freshmen Lacie Grenier and Breanna Pelaez as UB battled back from down 9-8 in the final frame.
Speaking of Perreault, she also doubled in Madison D'Amato for Bridgeport's eighth run of the game in the fifth inning.
D'Amato once again sparked UB's attack from the lead-off spot. The senior shortstop, who continues to lead the CACC in batting (.473), hits (69) and runs scored (53) this season, went 3-for-5 in the finale with a pair of RBIs.
Another offensive contributor for the Purple Knights was McKenzie Morgan who put the home squad on the board with a solo home run in the second.
UP NEXT
