WILMINGTON, Del. - Continuing a stretch of four doubleheaders in a six-day span, the University of Bridgeport's softball team split a pair of games at Goldey-Beacom on Monday. The Purple Knights are now 24-10 overall this season, including a mark of 14-2 in the CACC.
GAME ONE – Bridgeport 7, Goldey-Beacom 2
After the Lightning tied the game up at 1-1 in the bottom of the seventh inning, UB erupted for six runs in the top of the eighth to secure the win.
Kaite Burawski was once again terrific in the circle for Bridgeport. The left-hander went all eight innings, allowing just one earned run on six hits. She finished the victory with seven strikeouts.
Burawski now stands with a 12-4 record, a 1.64 ERA and 127 strikeouts across 102.2 innings pitched this season. She ranks in the top-two of the CACC in every major pitching category.
Offensively, Angela Oros put UB on the board with an RBI single in the sixth. She also recorded a one-out triple in the eighth inning before scoring on a Charlee Horton single.
Speaking of Horton, she finished with a team-high three hits in the first game.
In addition to Horton's RBI knock, Bridgeport's eighth frame featured an RBI single from Paityn Thibodeaux and a bases-loaded triple off the bat of Sydnee Perreault.
GAME TWO – Goldey-Beacom 5, Bridgeport 0
The second game of the day was highlighted by Madison D'Amato extending her incredible hit streak to 30 straight games.
D'Amato tallied a pair of doubles and has now recorded at least one hit in 30 consecutive contests. She also has multiple hits in 18 games this season.
D'Amato's marvelous campaign features her leading the CACC in a litany of offensive categories, including batting average (.486), total hits (54), on-base percentage (.570), runs scored (44), doubles (15) and walks (19).
D'Amato has gone hitless in just one of Bridgeport's 34 games this season. She has also only struck out six times in 111 at-bats.
