BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – In the first of four doubleheaders over the next eight days, the University of Bridgeport's softball team tallied a pair of triumphs over Felician on Wednesday afternoon. The two conference victories push the Purple Knights' record to 21-9 this season, including 11-1 in the CACC.
GAME ONE – Bridgeport 6, Felician 1
A pair of freshmen supplied the majority of UB's offense in the opener while junior Vise Zarate tossed another gem in her 13th start of the year.
Lacie Grenier and Breanna Pelaez both knocked two-run singles in the contest to put Bridgeport up 4-1.
Pelaez then scored the Purple Knights' fifth run on a Madison D'Amato double in the third inning.
Pelaez, D'Amato and Mya Jones all finished with two hits in the opener.
Zarate, meanwhile, allowed just one run in another complete-game performance—her 12th of the season.
Zarate, who now holds an 8-5 record, lowered her ERA to 2.68 across more than 83 innings of action.
GAME TWO – Bridgeport 12, Felician 6
The Purple Knights scored their 12 runs in the first three innings of the finale. Five different UB players finished with multiple hits in the win.
Angela Oros posted a monstrous second game with three hits, three RBIs and three runs scored. She legged out a pair of RBI triples en route to improving her batting average to .414 this season.
D'Amato, meanwhile, added two more hits and three runs scored as she continues to lead the CACC in a litany of offensive categories.
Remarkably, D'Amato is currently on a 26-game hitting streak and ranks first in the conference in batting average (.495), on-base percentage (.585), runs (40), walks (18) and doubles (12).
Jones was terrific as well in the finale with two more hits. She also finished with two more RBIs and currently sits second in the CACC with 36 of them this season.
On the pitching side of things, Samantha Ledger picked up the win in her first appearance of the season. She allowed just one earned run and struck out four across 4.2 innings out of the bullpen.
