WALTHAM, Mass. – Hopping out of conference play for a mid-week doubleheader, the University of Bridgeport's softball team dropped a pair of matchups at Bentley University on Thursday. The 0-2 afternoon moves the Purple Knights' record to 17-9 overall this season. They remain at 7-1 in the CACC.
GAME ONE – Bentley 5, Bridgeport 3
Runners left on base told part of the story in the opener as UB stranded a season-high 13 on the base paths. Bridgeport left multiple runners on in five of the seven innings, including bases loaded to end the game.
Madison D'Amato, Emily Chase and Paityn Thibodeaux all hit doubles to lead the UB offense. Chase's two-bagger brought home a run in the second while D'Amato added an RBI single in the sixth.
D'Amato finished the day with three more hits as she continues to lead the CACC this season in batting average (.469) and on-base percentage (.564).
Charlee Horton and Samantha Ledger also chipped in singles in the opener while UB totaled 10 walks as a team.
In the circle, Kaite Burawski allowed three earned runs in six innings of action. She moves her record to 9-4 this season with a 2.00 ERA in 80.2 innings pitched.
Burawski continues to lead the CACC in strikeouts this season with 104. She is also ranked third in ERA.
GAME TWO – Bentley 6, Bridgeport 5
The Purple Knights were unable to hold on to a pair of leads in the finale after taking a 3-0 edge after one and then a 5-3 advantage in the fifth. Bentley put three across in the sixth to take the 6-5 lead.
Bridgeport plated three in the first inning off an RBI single from Thibodeaux and a two-run double from McKenzie Morgan. Morgan is tied with Angela Oros for second on the team in doubles (8) this season.
Charlee Horton supplied UB's final two runs courtesy of a solo home run (2nd HR in last three games) in the fourth and an RBI single in the fifth.
Horton, Morgan, Mya Jones and Sydnee Perreault all had two hits in the finale as UB totaled 10 total knocks. The Purple Knights left 10 runners on base.
