BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Continuing a stretch of four straight conference doubleheaders, the University of Bridgeport's softball team defeated Bloomfield College twice on Wednesday. The Purple Knights' sweep improves their record to 13-7 overall this season and 3-1 in the CACC.
GAME ONE – Bridgeport 8, Bloomfield 0 (Five Innings)
A dominant opener was sparked by a first-inning grand slam by Angela Oros. The Purple Knights put their first three batters of the game on base before Oros launched her third home run of the year.
Oros went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and four RBIs in the opener. She is now ranked in the top-five in the CACC in slugging, RBIs, batting average, hits and on-base percentage this season.
McKenzie Morgan was also superb at the dish. She hammered a pair of RBI doubles in the game, the second of which provided UB with an 8-0 lead.
Madison D'Amato joined Oros and Morgan with a multi-hit performance of her own. She went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
D'Amato is now the CACC's leader in hits (29), runs scored (29) and on-base percentage (.532) this season.
Kaite Burawski, holding a 5-0 lead, was up to her usual dominant ways in the circle. The left-hander allowed just two hits across five scoreless innings.
Burawski finished the game with 10 strikeouts to surpass 900 Ks for her career. She now has 903 strikeouts across 645.2 career innings.
GAME TWO – Bridgeport 6, Bloomfield 1
UB kept the momentum going in the finale. After the Bears went up 1-0, Bridgeport answered with a monstrous six-run fourth.
The Purple Knights had five RBI hits in the fourth frame alone, including another double by Morgan. Charlee Horton also doubled in a run while D'Amato, Mya Jones and Alex Hughes all hit RBI singles.
Jones continues to be the CACC's leader in RBIs this season with 24.
In the circle, Vise Zarate went the distance to pick up her fourth win of the season. The California native allowed just one run with six strikeouts across seven innings of action.
