WINTER PARK, Fla. – Facing their first true road test of the season, the University of Bridgeport's softball team (6-4) split a doubleheader at Rollins College (12-5) on Wednesday night. The Purple Knights earned a 6-2 win in the finale after dropping an 8-3 contest in the opener.
GAME TWO – Bridgeport 6, Rollins 2
Vise Zarate pitched a gem in the finale to help UB bounce back and salvage a split. The right-hander allowed just two runs across a complete-game performance. She finished with four strikeouts while walking one.
Zarate now has three wins this season with a 2.07 ERA across 27.0 innings of work.
Offensively, the Purple Knights put three runs on the board in the third before adding three more insurance tallies in the seventh.
Mya Jones erupted with four RBIs while going 2-for-4 at the dish. She hammered a pair of two-run doubles—one in the third and one in the seventh.
Jones, who is now batting a team-high .448 this season with 13 RBIs (1st in the CACC), also scored on an Angela Oros RBI double in the third.
Madison D'Amato enjoyed a strong second game as well with a double, two runs scored and a pair of walks.
GAME ONE – Rollins 8, Bridgeport 3
Rollins took control of the opener thanks to four runs in the second inning before tacking on insurance tallies in each of the final three frames.
D'Amato led the UB offense from the lead-off spot. The senior captain went 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored. She is now batting .387 across 10 games this season.
Sydnee Perreault and Oros recorded the Purple Knights other two hits in the contest courtesy of third-inning singles.
Oros knocked in Perreault for UB's third run of the game.

The Purple Knights will be back at the Space Coast Complex (Melbourne, Fla.) on Friday to face SNHU (1:30 p.m.) and Florida Tech (3:30 p.m.).
